Reducing hose wear makes sweeping, washing and watering easier, as the water equipment stays tidy and is ready for use in no time. The greatest wear and tear often occurs during movement: the hose gets caught under a tyre, rubs against the edge of a rack or is dragged along the ground from one location to another. Reducing hose wear starts with transport
During transport, it is advisable to wind the hose evenly and lift it off the ground. A hose left hanging freely outside the rack can easily get caught on tyres, steps, branches and the edges of the yard. By planning the hose’s starting point, storage and working direction before setting off, you’ll avoid unnecessary pulling and sudden kinks. For example, a 20-metre hose that is dragged completely along the ground at every stop picks up sand and moisture along its entire length. Secure the hose on the rack and at the workstation
To minimise hose wear, particular attention must be paid to points where the hose changes direction or runs alongside a metal structure. Allow the hose sufficient room to turn and position the couplings so that they do not bear the weight of the hose. Before setting off, check that the hose is not caught between the tank, a mounting bracket or a piece of equipment. A little organisation before you start will save time whilst you’re working.
It is advisable to keep water equipment organised into separate groups according to their intended use. Hoses for washing, watering and other liquids are easier to manage when they are labelled and stored in their designated places. Label the hoses clearly and keep them in their designated storage areas.
