Draining properly: how to remove water from the “pockets” too”

Draining does not simply mean opening the bottom valve. In a combination of a rack and an IBC container, typical pockets of water can be found in the bends of the hoses, the quick-release couplings, the filters and inside the valve body. Flushing and cleaning: preparations for spring begin as early as autumn

The aim of flushing is twofold: to remove dirt that exacerbates freezing (sediment, sand, organic material) and to minimise the risk of the first filling in the spring blocking the nozzles, filters or valves. Does an IBC container always have to be completely emptied for the winter?
In most cases, yes, if the tank contains water or washing-up water and is stored in freezing conditions. The risk lies particularly in valves, connectors and the low-lying parts of hoses, where a small amount of water may remain. An exception may be a situation where a fluid that is clearly frost-resistant and suitable for the intended use is employed, and the system is correctly labelled. The safest basic solution is to drain the system and dry the connectors.
How can I protect the bottom valve so that it doesn’t crack or start leaking in the spring?
Drain the valve body thoroughly and ensure that no water remains inside it. Disconnect the hose and allow the valve to drain slowly; open and close the valve a couple of times to prevent sediment from remaining in the mechanism.
