In practice, the best part of the induction is the “hands-on” section: lifting an empty or partially filled IBC in a safe area, securing the locks, connecting the hose and simulating the emptying process. Lifting and securing: a routine that prevents falls and twisting of the torso

That is why two things are always emphasised during induction training: lift in a controlled manner and ensure that the rack’s attachment (e.g. front loader or adapter) is correctly secured before lifting the load higher than is absolutely necessary.

Level and space Choose a level surface, clear away any loose items and keep bystanders at a safe distance.
Slow lift To begin with, lift it just a few centimetres and check whether the load remains upright.

Piping and draining: minimising leaks, splashes and downtime
Hose connection is often the point where rushing comes back to haunt you: the hose kinks, the connector doesn’t seal properly, the valve is opened too quickly, or the draining process is started before the receiving end is ready. During induction training, it is always worth demonstrating the “correct sequence”: first check the connectors and seals, then route the hose (avoiding any kinks), and only then open the valve in a controlled manner.
In property maintenance (e.g. Vaasa, Kokkola, Kajaani), long hoses are often used for washing and brushing tasks, which increases the risk of the hose getting caught under the wheels or kinked at a corner. A clear division of responsibilities ensures that induction training works even when management is not present every day. In practice, you need at least three roles: (1) the user/operator, (2) the person in charge or site supervisor, and (3) a person responsible for maintenance (who may be the same as the supervisor in a small team). When everyone knows their part, “the scaffold isn’t working” situations are resolved more quickly and the information isn’t left in just one person’s head.
